I carried this candle all the way home from the temple in Doi Suthep. I had burnt half of it in prayer for your mother when she was dying. I’m not religious, but it seemed like something tangible I could do. And then tonight, you write to tell me that your dad has left us and it seems time to finish burning the candle. You may no longer be in my life, but I carry a heavy heart for you now.
